TERRANCE A. TAFORO
Attorney at Law
The focus of Mr. Taforo’s practice is primarily family law, estate planning and contract/business law. He strives to resolve cases without court intervention whenever possible. The vast majority of his cases are resolved without the large expense and emotional strain of trial.
His family law practice includes dissolutions, child custody and visitation, child support, spousal support and pre and postnuptial agreements. His aim is to resolve divorces by reaching marital settlement agreements. He believes it is in the best interest of both sides, especially in cases with children, to reach agreements rather than have the court decide what will happened to the children and the parties’ assets.
Mr. Taforo is a member of a nation wide estate planning group. He offers complete estate plans that include revocable living trusts, wills, powers of attorney, and advance health care directives. His estate plans include easy methods for organizing your estate and directions for your executors and heirs on how to conclude your estate without going through probate or needing an attorney.
Mr. Taforo’s business practice includes drafting real estate purchase and sales agreements, assistance with business formation and establishing corporations and LLCs.
Mr. Taforo established his law practice in Siskiyou County in 2000. In 2002 he formed an association with Mr. Arnold David Breyer, a family law attorney with over 35 years of experience. Mr. Taforo serves clients in Siskiyou County, while Mr. Breyer provides research and legal document drafting services to attorneys. Mr. Taforo and Mr. Breyer continue their close relationship.
Prior to opening his practice in Siskiyou County, Mr. Taforo worked in the biotechnology industry for twenty years holding positions as an in-house counsel and head of operations. His experience in biotechnology included working in research where he was fortunate to be included as a co-inventor on five patents. He drafted and negotiated contracts with many of the major academic and privately held institutions in the US and throughout Europe and Asia, as well as with governmental agencies such as the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control. In addition to his experience in contract law, Mr. Taforo was responsible for business operations, including facility design and construction, human resources, environmental health and safety and laboratory services.
Mr. Taforo graduated Loyola Marymount University with degrees in biology and chemistry. He attended Golden Gate School of Law while working full time and earned his Doctorate of Jurisprudence before passing the California State Bar.
Mr. Taforo is very involved in the Mt. Shasta community. He sits on the Boards for the Community Foundation of the North State and Mercy Foundation North. He is chair of the Mercy Mount Shasta Ethics Committee and is also an active member of the Mount Shasta Rotary.
Mr. Taforo is dedicated to resolving issues. He uses his years of negotiating skills to bring each case to a conclusion.
